My 16 month old daughter does not like it when we change her diaper. Any idea why?

  • This is particularly so when she has had a bowel movement.

  • frist and for most, i think that if any child is old enough to know that they don't want to have bowel movement on them they are more than ready to be potty trained. i am a mother of 2 and both of my children were ready to be potty trained at 1 1/2. Report Abuse

  • That's when you both go together, a day with the girls! You both pick out the potty chair, take it home together, assemble it together! through the diapers out together, say that's it together! Go potty together the first time and you got it made! Snap just like that! No More Diapers. Report Abuse

  • I know my 16 month old daughter just doesn't like to lay still for a minute or two. And she knows it takes longer to change a poopy then anything else. Maybe she is just a busy body and doesn't want to slow down.

  • Because you're keeping her from playing! All kids hate having their diapers changed at one point or another. She probably hates it even more after she's had a bowel movement because she knows it's going to take longer than if she just wet herself. It's normal for her to hate it..most kids do :-)

  • Sounds to me like she just needs to go the potty then if she hates it that much. Report Abuse

  • This could also mean that she is sensitive to the feeling of either the poop or the wipes. My son was very sensitive in that area, especially during bowel movements. It turned out he has sensory integration, he feels things a LOT differently than you or I. Report Abuse

  • Maybe your 16 month old daughter, is teething. She might be cranky around this time while she is teething. Talk to her doctor about how to deal with teething. Report Abuse

  • hi my son when he was a baby would do the same thing i asked our doctor he said it was probably because he didn't like being naked go figure. Report Abuse

  • she doesn't want to smell it , start potty training her

  • I've no clue why she doesn't like it Report Abuse

  • When my daughter begin to hate having her diaper changed, it was the first sign she was ready to start getting ready to potty train. You might start asking her if she wants to start trying the potty and get some big girl pants. No pressure, but it may be that she's approaching that time.

  • Perhaps if you gave her one of her favorite toys to hold while you change her would help Report Abuse

  • That was the perfect answer. Most babies try to get out of there diaper changings. It sure sounds as if potty training is worth a try. My 16 month old does the same. She even hides behind a chair, or in the bedroom to go #2, I will also take this great advice. Report Abuse

  • It because she doesnt like to be restrained or be made to stay in the same place for an extended amount of time. My 18 mo son is the exact same why. I give him a toy to distract him while I quickly change his diaper. Good Luck

Oh yeah the toy I use is an old cell phone that looks nothing like the one I have now (so he doesnt get confused) that I only take out during rough diaper changes so its not something he is already bored with!!

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, toilet training depends on a childâ ™s readiness, not his or her age. "Potty Pro" Teri Crane offers this quiz to help parents determine when their child is ready:

    1) Does your child relate to and imitate older children?
    2) Can your child safely walk to and from the toilet?
    3) Is your child starting to understand where his or her toys and other possessions belong?
    4) Is the number of times your child says "no" or responds negatively decreasing?
    5) Is your child interested in trying to do things by him or her self?
    6) Does your child know that some of her peers are successfully using the potty?
    7) Can your child understand what you mean by "using the potty" and "no more diapers," and can he or she talk about this with you?
    8) Is your childâ ™s diaper staying dry longer?
    9) Does your child frequently wake up with a dry diaper?
    10) Is your child stopping play to squat for a bowel movement?

Scoring: One point for each "YES" answer

8-10 points: Your child is probably ready to begin potty training
5-7 points: Wait a month and take the quiz again
1-4 points: You have some time. Wait a few months and retake the quiz

  • you should waite until she's sleep and then cange her diaper? Report Abuse
