I have a simple question.Who makes the best home surround sound system?Sony, Pioneer, infinty ect.. ?

  • I have surround systems in "every" room of my house and most are a "mix and match" type set-up with a receiver from one company, amps and processors from a other and speakers from one, two or three more. But I just wondering if there's one company out there that makes a really good sounding system I can just install and play without all the tinkering to make it sound right(good crisp highs and a strong mid-bass hit(60hz at around 90dB) from the main speakers and gut turning thunder bass from the sub(25hz at around 120dB).can anyone help?

  • Your best bet would be Sony. This is a really good company for Surround Sound Systems. I own one myself and have had it for some years and it works like a charm. It makes you feel like you are right there in the scene.

  • IMHO -- McIntosh Labs!

  • I've got Sony and I'm loving it.

  • I usually stay away from the "Who makes the best xxxx?" questions, but for some reason felt compelled to answer this one. The Eagle Keeper kind of has it right in that while one manufacturer may make and excellent receiver, their speakers may wreak. Often times they may specialize in one area while having other equipment to fill out their line. Having said that, I feel that most manufacturers make a similar product when compared apple to apples, at the same price point. They may have a particular proprietary technology that speaks to you, at a specific point, but most will do the same thing as the others. In other words; there's a Sony that like a Yamaha that's like a brand X that's like a etc. As you get into more and more expensive products the differences will become more readily obvious. Read all you can about all of them and listen with your ears not your eyes.

  • While mix n' match systems tend to be a pain in the butt, they do have some benefit. Those home theaters in a box are usual the low end of whatever they piece together. Limited power & sound quality. When you do mix n' match, it's important to think it through carefully. Many times I've made the mistake of thinking it would work, then it doesn't. But if I had the money, here's what I would get:

    Yamaha RX-Z11 $4999.99
    Yamaha BD-S2900 Blu-ray $999.99
    L&R speaker - Legacy Classics $4,600
Ctr spkr - Legacy Silver Screen $1,795
    surround - Legacy Phantom $3,350
subwoofer - Legacy LF Xtreme $3,650
    5 Marantz MA-700 monobloc amps (used) $500+ea
Misc wires & cables from Audioquest - $1,000+

So you see, there is no "one" company that can do what you ask.
